Silver divorces - Boomers buck the trend

Mon, 01 Sep 2008 12:38:29 PDT
The Times and The Guardian reported on a very illuminating societal trend this weekend, they noted that divorce rates in England and Wales are now at their lowest level for 26 years. However, recently the number of divorces in the over 60’s category has been on the increase. This is a very interesting trend and in part explained by the fact that the oldest of the Baby Boomers or what we call “Cuspers” have been turning 60. Baby Boomers are defined as the generation born directly after WW2. They

Public: Don't Mess With My Flight Plans

Sun, 13 Aug 2006 11:58:25 PDT
"Pretty soon we'll have to fly naked!" The mass media rapidly embraced the UK terror storyline fed to them. The BBC, CNN, CBC Newsworld and other all-news broadcasters covered scarcely anything but the narrowly averted catastrophe throughout the day. Funny thing, but the general public wasn't buying it. The reaction was surprisingly cynical...

Rising costs a concern for new Ore. State Hospital - NewsFla

Mon, 01 Sep 2008 11:31:54 PDT
I don't think "rising costs" mean one whit to those State workers in Salem. Spending $46,734.69 per bed makes one wonder about their sanity. $458 million would go a long way towards patching up the old hospital. And the construction costs are just a start. In the meantime, all the crazies are getting SSI and whatever else they want.

Look Who Else is Racist!

Sat, 28 Jun 2008 07:34:38 PDT
Anti-tax activist Grover Norquist has been catching a lot of heat for his comment that Senator Obama is “John Kerry with a tan.” First of all, how dare he insult Kerry’s fine conservative record (relatively speaking) by comparing it to that of Obama? Second, I cannot believe that Norquist injected race into this election! I thought we were going to get to November without anyone mentioning that McCain is white and Obama is black. Haven’t we gotten beyond the point in this country where … oh,

Coworking, Childcare, Cubes & Crayons

Mon, 12 May 2008 07:00:10 PDT
Coworking continues to evolve and mold to the increasingly blurred boundaries between domestic and professional life. An area often overlooked is that of childcare for remote workers and home workers. I have colleagues and collaborators who, despite the fact they’re self-employed and work largely from a home office, still need to employ childcare. Some may see this as an unnecessary overhead, but it’s actually desperately needed in order to provide focus whilst working from home. Enter Cubes

CBC: And now for an honest middle o’ the road perspective… (no—just kidding!)

CBC: And now for an honest middle o’ the road perspective… (no—just kidding!) News item: dozens of ducks land in an oil sands “tailings” pond in Alberta which is usually protected by bird-scaring techniques to keep the birds away; and are poisoned, and die. It’s a tragedy. Clearly. The company is sad, the government is sad, we’re all sad. No doubt one or two heads will roll, and probably, people will be more careful in the future. We all hope so. And none of us need to be lectured about

Staying home

Mon, 12 May 2008 06:55:56 PDT
The weather today is HORRIBLE here today. We’re having a Nor’easter. If it were winter we’d be getting buried under tons of snow. I’m glad it’s just rain. I just got home from going to WaWa. It’s pouring, the wind is blowing so bad that I had to dodge fallen branches and when I parked my car the wind was shaking it. I was afraid the car was going to blow over. The electric has gone out several times and the WaWa I went to is the only one open in the area (there are 3 in this area). The others
